Ida G. Presta in 2017 graduated with honors in Architecture at the University of Basilicata - DiCEM Department. In 2017 he qualifies to practice as an Architect. In 2022, she achieves the PhD degree in Knowledge and Innovation in Heritage Design, at the Polytechnic University of Bari, in Urban Planning. Title of Research Thesis Spaces for Temporary Inhabitants, New Forms of Contemporary Living. In 2022 she won a fellowship for research entitled Urban planning analysis and participatory approaches for the integrated development of Digital Urban Twins at CNR-DIITET.
Giovanna Mangialardi Polytechnic University of Bari

Giovanna Mangialardi, PhD, is an adjunct professor in ICAR 21 at the Polytechnic University of Bari, ArCoD. She participates in the research activities of the project for the regeneration of areas affected by Xylella, funded by the MIPAAF, of the "Puglia Regione Universitaria" project, and of the national PRIN research project "RUSH Responsive University Student Housing". She served as a research fellow for five years at the University of Salento and currently holds the position of Associate Editor for the International Journal of Urban Planning and Smart City, published by IGI Global.

Abstract

The city is understood as a place intended for the production and dissemination of knowledge, culture and creativity, while the University, represents the place that fosters the transit of knowledge, and individuals, which forms new personalities.

Matera has gone through different conditions in recent years, and in each of these, the University has been a central element in urban dynamics. The paper, therefore, investigates the evolution of the relationship between the University and Matera following the candidacy of the City as the Capital of Culture, the event (2029), and the subsequent epidemiological crisis caused by Covid-19.

The purpose of the contribution is to initiate critical reflections on the dialogue between the two institutions, starting with the role that cultural inhabitants and "new" ways of living have on spatial transformations, to orient policies and/or strategies that can realign supply and demand, and that frame Matera as a university city.
